Enya Flack, interview with the star of All the Queen's Men
Tv / Interview - 22 January 2025
“Working with Tyler Perry has been such a rewarding experience”

Meet Enya Flack, whose talent and elegance have marked every performance she has given. From her appearances on The Sopranos, Homeland: Spy Hunt... to her breakout role in All the Queen's Men. She has been a part of many great casts, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. How would you characterize that experience and what do you remember about playing Carlotta in the 1994 episode?
Being on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was such a fun and unforgettable experience. At the time, it was one of the top-rated shows on NBC and the energy on set was incredible. Everyone in the cast was so talented and focused and they truly seemed like a real family. I was absolutely thrilled to be on the show, especially since playing Carlotta was one of my first acting jobs! I remember walking onto the set for the first time and definitely being nervous, but when Will Smith greeted me with a big smile, he immediately made me feel welcome. He had this amazing ability to make everyone laugh between takes, which made the whole experience feel less intimidating and a lot more fun. One moment that stands out is when Will and I had a quick back-and-forth exchange and he improvised a line during our scene. It completely caught me off guard, but got a big laugh from the audience. It was a great lesson in staying in the moment and just enjoying the process. Looking back, it was an incredible start to my career and a memory that will always make me smile.
She is accomplished in ballet, piano and flute and has worked as a model and has a degree in broadcast communications. Who is Enya Flack, is there a character you played that you felt closest to? Have you ever thought about what you would have done if you had not become an established performer? Maybe a journalist?
I’ve always known I wanted to be part of the television industry in some way. My background in ballet, piano, flute, and modeling provided me with invaluable experience that I later applied as an actress—especially when it came to performing in front of an audience. Although I pursued broadcast communications right after college, I quickly realized that television news wasn’t the right fit for me. If I had to choose a character I relate to most, it would be Larkin Gray, a character I played in Queen Sugar. Larkin was a hard-hitting journalist who conducted a compelling interview about the effects of Zika on the people of New Orleans post-hurricane. Had I not become a performer, I think I would probably have stayed in journalism—but not as a traditional news reporter. I could see myself doing in-depth reporting on programs like Nightline or 20/20.
You are one of the stars of the TV series All the Queen's Men, do you have an anecdote to share with fans of the series?
Working with Eva Marcille is always an intense experience. She fully immerses herself in the role of Madam DeVille…so much that my first time on set, I wasn't completely sure where Eva ended and Madam began! During my first scene, my character, DA Rodds and Madam were having a heated confrontation. Between takes, Eva stayed in character, and she didn’t drop her intensity for a second. At one point, she gave me this piercing look that felt so real I had to remind myself we were acting. Then, when the scene wrapped, she suddenly broke into a huge smile and said, “Thank you Beautiful!” It was such a relief, and we both laughed about it. Eva’s commitment to her character always brings such energy scenes and really pushes me to match her intensity. You have to be ready for anything. Fans tell me they love that dynamic between Rodds and Madam, and so do I. It’s amazing to work with someone who keeps you sharp and makes every moment unforgettable!
How is it like working with Tyler Perry on the set?
Working with Tyler Perry has been such a rewarding experience. Armani Ortiz directed most of the episodes I’ve been in, and he’s amazing to work with, but you can always feel Mr. Perry’s influence. When he’s on set, his energy inspires everyone around him and even when he’s not physically there, you feel his presence in how things are done. I’m definitely grateful to be part of this world he’s created.
Soon you will be seen in On Fire, based on the novel of the same name, can you anticipate anything about your role?
The book On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life, by John O’Leary is such an inspiring story. It’s about his journey of surviving a childhood accident that left him with severe burns and how he turned that tragedy into a life filled with purpose and hope. It’s one of those books that makes you stop and think about what really matters and how you can make an impact, no matter what you’ve been through. Being in the upcoming movie adaptation has been one of my favorite acting experiences to date. My role is not the largest, but it’s such a meaningful part of the story, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. I LOVED the energy on set! Everyone involvedwas so passionate about bringing John’s message to life. It’s a story that will really stay with you and perhaps change your way of thinking. I can’t wait for people to see it!
Could there be a musical role in Enya Flack's future? Maybe a musical?
Haha, maybe! At the moment I’m happy doing television and film, but I rarely pass up an opportunity for a new experience. I love musical theater and have done some singing as well, so there’s certainly a possibility!
