Interview with Giulio Base, director of the Torino Film Festival: 'I love kammerspiel films'
Check out the interview with Giulio Base, director of the Torino Film Festival
Giulio Base is the director of the Turin Film Festival, which opens tomorrow. Base is also the director of films such as Margherita delle stelle, A La Recherche and Il banchire anarchico: he is working on the new film Judas' Gospel with Rupert Everett, Paz Vega and John Savage.
How did you select the films for the Competition?
The only real guideline we followed was the quality of the films.
There are also films from countries where it is difficult to express oneself today, such as Ukraine and Iran. Do you think a festival can compete to give more voice?
I certainly think so. Festivals give you the opportunity to discover countries and themes in films that don't have a market (yet) or will never have one (unfortunately).
You are also a director. Are there themes among the selected films that you feel closest to?
More than themes, I love kammerspiel films. They require great technical skills from the director and excellent performances from the actors. We have two of them in the competition.
What do you expect from the audience of this festival?
I hope that on the last day of the festival they will say, "No! Is it over?"
