Fight or Flight: A Bloody, Bizarre Battle at 30,000 Feet
Now screening in theatres, "Fight or Flight" thrusts audiences into a chaotic whirlwind of violence and adrenaline with high stakes. Directed by James Madigan and written by Brooks McLaren and D.J. Cotrona, the action-comedy follows assassin Lucas Reyes as he battles for survival and redemption.
The film's premise is simple yet electrifying: a plane becomes a battleground as Reyes attempts to locate a high-profile hacker on a flight from Bangkok to San Francisco. Reyes is tasked to bring the hacker alive, but quickly becomes difficult when the plane is filled with an ensemble of assassins hunting for the same target.
The hunt soon becomes anything but normal through a blood-soaked ordeal testing Reyes’s mettle and morals. Each scene is choreographed strategically, allowing viewers to follow each gruesome blow and weapon-wielding fight while only being confined to a plane.
Hartnett’s portrayal is nothing short of exceptional, anchoring the film with a blend of physical prowess and charisma. His chemistry with co-stars Charithra Chandran, Katee Sackhoff, Marko Zaror, and Julian Kostov enhances the movie, adding additional depth to his character. The supporting cast uniquely contributed their dynamic to the hijacked flight, helping move the story along so it never got too stale.
With Madigan’s direction, relentless action unfolds, even with the quiet, character-driven moments throughout the movie. The film also tackles deeper themes, such as the pasts of Reyes and Ghost, helping reveal the characters' true intentions.
The visual and practical effects utilized in the movie help elevate the intensity, especially in scenes where the plane becomes a battleground with makeshift weapons and hazards. The camera work perfectly captures the claustrophobia of the setting and the impact of each fight, ultimately enhancing audience immersion throughout the film.
Given the large amount of graphic violence, profanity-laden dialogues, and intense thematic elements, the film isn’t for the faint of heart. However, the movie excels in delivering exactly what is promised. Although “Fight or Flight” might not have redefined the action genre, it solidifies Jogh Hartnett’s return to form and offers audiences an intense experience.
With smart choreography, perfectly timed comedic elements, compelling performances, and an unapologetic commitment to gore, the film is primed to have a good run with its constant action scattered throughout. Whether you enjoy an action-packed thriller or simply look for an escapade in cinematic chaos, “Fight or Flight” will deliver raw, unrelenting energy.
