Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is the horror movie coming out. It is a reimagining of The Mummy franchise, which began in 1999. The plot centers on Katie, the young daughter of a journalist: she disappears in the desert without a trace.

The devastated family is shocked when the girl suddenly reappears eight years later. But what should have been a joyful family reunion quickly turns into a terrifying nightmare.

This is not a reboot with Brendan Fraser - who played Rick O’Connell, an adventurer who accidentally resurrects an ancient curse - even though the actor had stated he would be willing to revisit the character if the opportunity arose.

In the released trailer, an Egyptian sarcophagus is opened. In quick frames we see a photographed hand, a female corpse, a man jumping against window glass, a photo of a father (Jack Reynor) with the little girl.

Jack Reynor acted in Flora and Son, The Good Mother and in the TV series Citadel. The cast also includes Laia Costa, performer in The Teacher Who Promised the Sea and in episodes of The Diplomat and Soulmates.

Also present are May Calamawy, already seen in Gladiator II and The Actor; Verónica Falcón, already seen in A Million Miles Away and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. The direction is by Lee Cronin, who has already directed The Hole in the Ground and Evil Dead Rise, the first movie of the Evil Dead franchise.

While the first two movies had audience success, the third didn’t match the previous ones, leading Universal to shelve the franchise, producing a new movie in 2017 with Tom Cruise in the lead role. The three movies grossed a total of 1.4 billion dollars.

The production is by New Line Cinema, Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster. Filming began in Ireland and Spain in March 2025 and concluded in June. The movie releases in the United States on April 17, 2026.
