Sci-fi and Romance Movie: The Plot of O Horizon

O Horizon is the sci-fi and romance movie coming out. Abby (Maria Bakalova) is a brilliant young neuroscientist who has recently lost her father (David Strathairn). To drown the pain, Abby spends her days working with a monkey named Dorey.

Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Sam (Adam Pally), a programmer who has created a technology capable of reconnecting Abby with her deceased father. The relationship with this digitalized father forces her to reexamine everything, from her romantic relationships to her life's work.

"What we do here is collect audio recordings of anyone you can think of and bring them to life, allowing you to live with them" says Sam in the released trailer. "Hey, how was your work day?" the voice simulation of the dead father asks her, via phone.

"Your deceased father just called to know how I was doing" the guy she slept with tells Abby.

Cast of the Movie with Maria Bakalova and David Strathairn

Maria Bakalova acted in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm - for which role she was nominated for an Oscar - and The Apprentice, where she played Ivana Trump.

David Strathairn worked on Nomadland, and for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck he received an Oscar nomination and the Coppa Volpi at Venice.

The cast also includes Adam Pally, known for his role in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga; Maggie Grace, famous for the Taken trilogy; Avi Nash, who acted in the TV series The Walking Dead, and Paulina Porizkova.

Production, Soundtrack and Release of the Movie

The direction is by Madeleine Rotzler, who directed The Lottery, Dangerous Acts Starring the Unstable Elements of Belarus, O.G. and It's a Hard Truth Ain't It.

"In 2020, I started writing about a world I considered an alternate reality - she said - just a few years later, it's no longer alternate, which is a big reason why I'm excited for people to put away their screens and come experience this movie together with strangers in a cool, dark room."

The movie was produced by Rotzler herself together with Paul Nelson, Audrey Tommassini and Joseph Cross, with Mark Gill as executive producer. The soundtrack is signed by singer-songwriter Aimee Mann.

O Horizon is released in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2026. The movie had its world premiere at the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it won the Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema.
