HorrorShorts, the New Short Film Competition in Collaboration with Eli Roth and We Short

HorrorShorts is a competition aimed at storytellers who wish to present their original screenplay for a live-action horror short film. The initiative—organized by We Short—was created to give visibility to new forms of storytelling and to promote the most original and disruptive voices in the horror landscape. Director Eli Roth is collaborating on the initiative: "I've always believed in the power of short films, especially to demonstrate the talent of an emerging director," he states. "Making a film is expensive, but a well-crafted short is the best calling card to attract investors and show you have what it takes for a feature film. With this initiative, we want to offer those who dream of making horror a concrete possibility not only to shoot their own short, but to accompany it through development into a film."

WeShort will select a shortlist of 10 finalists who will be invited to present their project in an online pitching session to the teams from The Horror Section and WeShort. From these, 3 winners will be chosen, whose screenplays will be produced as WeShort Originals, distributed globally, and premiered in a special HorrorShorts showcase curated by Eli Roth. The winning shorts will also be optioned for feature film development by The Horror Section.

Screenplays must be original and unpublished, and content generated by artificial intelligence or plagiarized material will not be accepted. Registration opens on July 17, 2025, with a deadline of October 31; the winners will be announced on December 15, 2025, with WeShort Originals production beginning in the first four months of 2026.
