Manuela Wenger parades in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland: "Women have to work harder to get leading roles"
15-03-2024

Actress, presenter and model Manuela Wenger attended and appeared in the “Frauen & Kunst” (Woman & Art) fashion show in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland, in honor of International Women's Day. The event was held at Seeburg Castle, which dates back to 1598, on beautiful Lake Constance. Manuela modelled a dress by high fashion designer Ketty Nuñez who has also shown in both the New York and Milan Fashion Week.

“It was a special event for me to model in”, said Manuela, “as it merged different art forms such as haute couture fashion, swimwear and jewelry with many cultures represented through a vibrant backdrop of music and artwork. The result was a celebration of the beauty and versatility of women's expression and creativity – perfectly in sync with International Women's Day.” Regarding the challenges women face in their careers, Wenger says, “the fact is, even now, many professions are still dominated by men who make the hiring decisions. Women are very often sidelined because they are made to choose between a successful career or having a family. As the traditional caregiver in any family, women are expected, more than men, to acquiesce and abandon their own dreams and ambitions to the needs and attentions required by their loved ones. In the film industry for example, several reports and studies talk about women being underrepresented and facing challenges in booking lead roles and directing films. Speaking from my own experience, I haven’t had to make these choices yet. I am just grateful to have been supported and appreciated for the personality and skills I bring to the table at the workplace.”

Earlier this year, Manuela Wenger was in Swiss cinemas playing the role of Ilaria, with the film Velo Gang, directed by Alex Kälin: the story of Yosef, a young refugee trying to make a living in Switzerland. He soon realizes that the only job he can get is delivering food by bike, but soon finds himself in trouble with the most dangerous bike couriers in Zurich. The movie is an homage to the B-movies featuring bikers of the 1960s.

In Follow Us # iCarus, a new film by Caroline Wloka soon to be released in Swiss cinemas, Wenger plays the role of the nurse in the clinic. The story is about two friends who experience the thrill of success as influencers on social networks. One of them, in order to create spectacular content for his followers, has his friend film him performing daring stunts until a tragic accident occurs.

In addition, Manuela Wenger has worked on several other projects. Over the past few years, she has been honing her skills with parts in theatrical productions The Deadly Legacy, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The American Dream, adding to her nearly ten years acting experience. More recently she will be appearing in feature films APPology - Be Your Best Self, The Decision and Tides. She has worked as a moderator for many events including at the Zurich Film Festival for several years as well as on various commercials, as a model and as a voice over artist.
