Interview with actor Riccardo Scamarcio

Actress Ilenia Pastorelli took part in the Filming Italy Los Angeles 2024. We met her at the Beverly Hills Hotel. 

Your latest film, Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia, not only do you star in it, but you're also co -writer and co -producer. Does this mean that you have any personal love or affinity for racing and cars? 

Well, yes, for sure. I mean, I love fast cars. This is true. But, the reason why I got so involved in this project is because it's the true story of this man, Cesare Fiorio. He’s famous because he won so many impossible challenges, you know? And this is one of those, the World Championship in 1983. It's a movie about racing, but at the same time, it's a movie that tells about, how I can say, the peculiarity of the Italians against the Germans. There's a big rivalry between Germany and Italy since always. But, you know, it's like a kind of movie about the cultural differences between these two countries. 

Do you find that playing an actual person from a true story brings something different out of you for your approach to the acting, a more passionate approach to the portrayal?  

Well, not completely, because it's a real person. I have my idea. I just try to understand “who is this person?”, and the transposition of the character is going to be, for sure, betrayed. You know, I'm going to betray the truth. I don't try to produce something that the truth. But it's my truth. It's my personal point of view on that person.

This is the second time you and the director, Stefano Mordini, have teamed up?

Actually, the fourth time we have worked together. 

Does it feel very comfortable when you guys work together? 

Well, we're friends. We’ve known each other for many years. And, as you can imagine, you know, it's the same as so many examples, in America cinema, like Scorsese and DeNiro, DePalma and Pacino, Scorsese and DiCaprio, and so on. So, when you find a great director that trusts you, it is very important, because the relationship between directors and actors is all about trust.

Your new movie that you're working on, Modi, which Johnny Depp is directing, is there anything you can tell us about that?

I would like to live my life with Johnny. I want him to stay with me. I like this man, this artist, so much. He's been my director on this project, and it's been wonderful to work with him.
