We meet George Gallagher, who appeared as Lorenzo in the 1923 television series. Can you tell us about your role, who Lorenzo is, and how you fit into the plot of the Yellowstone prequel?

Lorenzo is an WWI veteran who fought for Italy and is now working onboard a ship bound for America. When he and Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, cross paths, these two recognize one another for the soldiers they were and there is a mutual respect…until there isn’t.

Do you have anecdote you would like to share with fans of the 1923 series, regarding casting or filming?

Initially, I auditioned for two different characters on the show, and told a close friend that, if for some reason, I didn't get the part of Lorenzo it would be a loss because there was something compelling about him — a darkness in his past but also a sense of pride that he carries into the present.

I have to add that working with Brandon Sklenar was a real privilege. Our scenes were very challenging, but he sets a great tone on set. Our director, Ben Richardson, was also a privilege to work with. He was the cinematographer on one of my favorite films, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and he communicates in a way that is highly accessible to actors, making the process enjoyable.

What has been the most challenging role you have played so far? Is there a role among the great classics of the past that you would have liked to play if you had the opportunity?

One of the most challenging characters I've played to date was Emmanuel Plaine, in an independent film I did years ago called Altered States of Plaine. Not only was it physically demanding but it also explored deep psychological issues. It’s about a young man who believes he suffers from a condition that causes him to teleport when he sleeps, often finding himself in life-threatening situations. He’s an outsider - alienated and searching for answers about why he is the way he is. I think many young people, particularly those who have grown up without a strong family foundation or who have experienced trauma or abuse, can relate to him.

I want to inhabit roles that make people question the status quo and that inspire. We are living through a time of great transformation, but there is something magical about the classic archetypes in storytelling. Recently, I’ve been drawn to playing characters who fight for justice in an imperfect world. Paul Newman’s character in The Verdict is one that always resonated with me - he’s flawed but stands up for the underdog when no one else will.

Who is George Gallagher, how was he born and what are his hobbies?

I had an itinerant youth, growing up in several states across the country, and spending time abroad. I prefer for the public to get to know me through the roles I play. One of the greatest gifts an artist can give their audience is the suspension of disbelief, and I think maintaining a bit of mystery helps cultivate that experience.

What are George Gallagher's future projects?

I have several shows and films coming out later in 2025 - stay tuned! You can follow me on Instagram @georgegallagher7 or X @geogall7 for updates!
