Mackintosh and T.J., the western film with Roy Rogers: the interview
Mackintosh and T.J is available in streaming in newly restored 4K version
What were the restoration phases of the film?
We scanned the original 35mm Negative film in full-aperture 4K, which allowed us to capture the entire image at the highest perceptible quality possible. Then we began the color correction process. Our colorist spent almost 60 hours on the project ensuring we were as true to the original intention as possible. The next part of the process included over 200 hours of DRS, which is where we manually clean up any film dirt, scratches, splice bumps and other artifacts. We also performed a picture stabilization and de-flicker pass to achieve optimal picture quality. Simultaneously the audio restoration team went to work on filling missing effects, removing pops, crackle and hiss. Finally, we did a final mix to punch-up the effects, accent the soundtrack and create a bit of ambient noise to fill gaps and create a more seamless and less transitionary audio track. Once, color, picture and sound restoration was complete we outputted the file to create the new 4K master, which is what audiences get to enjoy today.
