Scream 7, Joel McHale Interview
The statements of Joel McHale
"Hi, I'm Joel McHale and I'm playing Mark.
The schedule was pretty quick and I told my family and my 16-year-old I was saying 'I have this offer to be in Scream 7' and he just goes 'Do it! You'll be relevant again.' And so I was like: 'thank you'. So... there we go.
My character Mark, we're married and I am a sheriff. Ghostface has been following her a lot of her life and... my character loves her and is trying to protect her and... but you know, she's the badass.
Mark... my character, he's a sheriff and he's tough and he... like, he's really good at what he does but I think he is absolutely... he's so in love with Sidney and enamored by her and... and he would do anything for her. So our relationship, like in this... this is the first time my character has experienced a crazy guy in a mask coming at them with a knife and trying to kill them. You get thrown into this horror rollercoaster that you're like 'imagine if this was real life, what would you... how would you react and what would you do?' and you'd do everything to save your family.
Kevin is the nicest man and... he's aware of everything and this is why I would be a terrible director. He created this franchise, so he did that, like, just imagine just doing that, right? Uh... so, and he's obviously a wonderful writer and a wonderful director and producer and... this is why he's been working steadily most of his life... because he's so good at what he's doing and so kind.
Everyone wants their things to be successful and to make a hit. Uh... to do it once is almost impossible. To do it for 30 years... there's only... the handful of franchises that have continued in that time is... or in the same amount of time is... you can probably count them on one hand. There is something about Ghostface and these combination of actors and... I, you know, you just never know when magic is going to come together and, yeah, it helps that, you know, you get creative geniuses around and they come up with something that everybody loves."
