The Devil Wears Prada 2, David Frankel Director London Premiere Interview
The statements of David Frankel
I mean I’m kind of amazed that we are here at all. It’s incredible to me that we made a sequel. You know, we didn’t even think about doing it for almost 20 years. So the fact that we’re here is really exciting. Yeah, you know, I was in shock too. You know, it’s, you know, it’s, there’s a lot of expectation. And I think we made a movie that people will be excited to see. Yeah, I mean, I, you know the world that these characters lived in has changed so dramatically over 20 years. And there are just new challenges and there’s a lot of pressure on anyone who’s in the media and especially running a fashion magazine.
So Miranda’s facing a lot of challenges and journalism has not been kind to Andy over the years. So it’s, you know, it’s interesting to see where they go from here. Changes have taken their toll and, you know, a lot of people are struggling to find their way and and how we get information now is is so, so transformed in the 20 years. I mean, you know, you look at a magazine like Vogue, you know, in 2005 the September issue was almost a thousand pages. And today, like, I don’t even know if they’re going to have a September issue.
So, you know, where Runway Magazine is today is, made us really curious to explore, you know, where the story went. I mean, honestly I got up every day excited to work with these incredible movie stars. You know, I mean, any time you get a chance to work with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway or Emily Blunt or Stanley Tucci. And then the fact that they were together so often, really thrilling. There’re some pretty spectacular scenes, there’s a gala that we do in, on the steps of the Natural History Museum in New York, there’s a beautiful party scene at the Brooklyn Museum. We shot in, in Milan for 10 days, we shot up at Lake Como.
So there’re some really gorgeous spots, all of which were really exciting. And there’re, you know, some amazing new stars of the movie. You know, there’s a whole new generation of assistants and and there’re a lot of new characters.
