The Running Man Colman Domingo Interview
Colman Domingo's statements
"First of all, Edgar Wright is one of the most—uh—incredibly notorious auteurs. His visual language—um—is also is so extraordinary. But also, the people who have worked with him, the moment you say Edgar's name, people say: 'Oh, he's a great guy, he's really smart, he's really kind. He works with a lot of the same people that he has been working on for many years on his other films. He's just a magnificent director and also he is all the things that people said he would be. He's kind, he's very collaborative, he's very smart."
"Bobby T is a showman. He is a showman's showman. He is—um—in the center of this very, very famous show. And so I think that he's really—he understands the culture. He understands what people want, what excites people. And the shame is, what excites people is violence."
"I think audiences will be conflicted with who they're rooting for. Cause I think that's the nature of this Stephen King experience. I think you should be rooting for the everyman, but then I think you'll also probably get sucked in to the charms of Bobby T at times. I think you get sucked into the system of or the game, or or the fight, or or you know, the chase. And then you realize you're probably complicit by being an audience member as well."
"I walk onto this set and it's like, oh, my I couldn't stop laughing. I thought, this is supersized. This is huge. This is an arena. This is Gladiator. It's it has so much size. And then I was told that there would be over 300 background artists. I was able to really take in the fact that I had to have that much size to command this audience. And so that meant it was, I don't know if it was a it was a beautiful, I don't know if it was a very conscious thing that they did for me, but it really helped me understand who I was in this world."
"Josh Brolin and I, we became blood brothers immediately. Like I love that guy. He's, I think, I don't know. It's just something about like, he—he's very grounded, he's very honest, he's very funny, and he's very warm. Um, I can also say that about Lee Pace. Like, and I'll say this: I think Edgar—he knows how to bring people together. There's something that he has an instinct about, that people will really adore one another. And I can tell you, I—I've immediately, I feel like, oh, wow, I want to know these guys for a very long time. I have found a a lot of new, really warm, loving, kind relationships. And I think that's thanks to Edgar and his leadership and and the people that he brings around him."
