The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Keegan-Michael Key, Benny Safdie and Donald Glover Interview

Keegan-Michael Key: It was unbelievable. I mean, going to Japan, I've never been there before. To have that be the first time and to be there with this group of people was just spectacular.

Benny Safdie: Yeah, it was a dream come true. And Miyamoto-san took us to this incredible dinner in Kyoto. It was like a 100-year-old restaurant and it was just... it was mind-blowing.

Donald Glover: It was really special. My kids were there and they got to meet him and they were just... their brains were melting. It was the coolest thing ever.

Keegan-Michael Key: And the food! I mean, the food was just out of this world. I've never had anything like it.

Benny Safdie: It was great to be back with the directors too. We have such a good rapport with them now.

Donald Glover: Yeah, it's like a well-oiled machine at this point. We just jump in and we know exactly what we're doing.

Keegan-Michael Key: I love playing Toad. He's just got so much energy and he's so optimistic. He's a blast to play.

Benny Safdie: Donkey Kong is a lot of fun too. He's got that big personality and he's a little bit of a loose cannon.

Donald Glover: And Spike, you know, he's just trying to do his job. He's a little misunderstood maybe.

Keegan-Michael Key: There are so many Easter eggs in this movie. The fans are going to go crazy.

Benny Safdie: Yeah, if you know the games, you're going to be seeing things in every frame.

Donald Glover: But even if you don't, it's just a beautiful movie to look at. The animation is incredible.

Keegan-Michael Key: You've got to see it in a theater. The scale of it is just massive.

Benny Safdie: And you need the popcorn.

Donald Glover: Oh, for sure. What's your popcorn situation?

Keegan-Michael Key: I'm a purist. Just salt. No butter.

Benny Safdie: No butter? That's crazy. You need the butter! And I like to put some Jalapeños in there.

Donald Glover: Jalapeños? That's a bold move. I'm a sweet and salty guy. I like to throw some M&Ms in the popcorn while it's still warm.

Keegan-Michael Key: See, I can't do the sweet and salty. I'm strictly savory.

Benny Safdie: Well, more Jalapeños for me then.

Donald Glover: And more M&Ms for me.
