Tv series Stargirl, interview with actress Joy Osmanski
How has your experience with this coronavirus emergency been so far? How are you managing the “stay at home” order?
It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Most of us have no context for a pandemic. It’s the stuff of horror films. So to see how it actually plays out in our mundane lives has been such a challenge. For me, it’s thrown a lot of things into very sharp focus. What’s really important, who makes the real sacrifices, how we respond as a community. My biggest fear is that we look back on this time with shame and regret. I want to be part of the solution, and if that means staying at home to protect the most vulnerable people in our population, to protect the people who risk their lives in the medical profession, then that’s the very least I can do. For my family, we count ourselves lucky to have options for safety. There are so many who do not, and my heart aches for them. Luckily, there are ways we can help, organizations who do their best to watch out for folks who need support.
I have times when I get mired down in dark thoughts, dread, fear. In the horrific, deliberate choice of our president to create xenophobia around the Corona virus. But then there is always an example of tremendous kindness, of humor and fortitude and humanity. And I hold on tight to those moments. And I hold on tight to my husband and kids.
