Cate Blanchett began her career on Australian stages in the early 1990s, then made her film debut in 1997 with "Paradise Road." That same year, she landed her first leading role in "Oscar and Lucinda." Her portrayal of Elizabeth I in Shekhar Kapur’s "Elizabeth" (1998) marked a decisive turning point, earning her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress. This role highlighted her ability to portray complex and psychologically nuanced characters.

Her filmography is characterized by remarkable versatility. After "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999), in which she played Meredith Logue, Blanchett took on the role of Galadriel in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-2003), demonstrating her ability to navigate between auteur cinema and major productions. In 2004, she won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese’s "The Aviator," a performance recognized for its technical precision and interpretive depth.

Between 2006 and 2007, Blanchett received several Oscar nominations for "Notes on a Scandal," "I'm Not There," and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," becoming one of the few actresses nominated twice for the same character in different films. In 2013, she earned her second Oscar for Best Actress for Woody Allen’s "Blue Jasmine." Subsequently, "Carol" (2015) earned her a seventh nomination, while "Tár" (2022) secured her eighth, confirming her as the most nominated Australian actress in Academy Awards history.

Alongside cinema, Blanchett directed the Sydney Theatre Company from 2008 to 2013, staging productions such as "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Uncle Vanya." In 2017, she made her Broadway debut with "The Present," receiving a Tony Award nomination. In 2026, she returns to the London stage with "Electra/Persona" at the National Theatre, running from August 19 to October 10. The production, directed by Benedict Andrews, merges the Greek myth of Electra with Ingmar Bergman’s film. Nina Hoss and Ella Lily Hyland co-star.

In film, Blanchett recently completed shooting "Black Bag" and "Father Mother Sister Brother," both scheduled for release in 2025. Her filmography includes over seventy titles, ranging from blockbusters like "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017) and "Ocean's 8" (2018) to independent and dramatic productions, with a global box office exceeding $9.8 billion.
