Digger, the Movie Plot

Digger is the comedy and drama movie coming out. The plot tells of the most powerful man in the world, Digger Rockwell (Tom Cruise), a wealthy oil magnate, who attempts to become humanity's savior. But he also unleashes something that can undermine society itself.

"You know, everything changes - says Digger to the cat, in the released trailer - one day you're a cat, or a king, and the next day you're just ashes." Then he asks the veterinarian: "How much time do you think he has left?"; "two weeks or five minutes" he responds. "I know perfectly well what's happening there. Because I'm the one paying - says Digger to his employee on video call from Greenland, who reveals a problem with the oil platform - I pay for that 90% goose down jacket."

"Was it Digger who dug our grave? And will it be Digger who pulls us out of there" says the President of the United States (John Goodman). "When everything goes to hell, hit them with the truth, with the hard truth" Digger remarks.

Then he's in a hangar, fixes a metal shovel on the ground, and dances; in another scene, he climbs on a railing, and walks in balance.

Digger, the Movie Cast

Tom Cruise recently acted in Top Gun: Maverick, American Made and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - movie divided into two parts. In the cast there will be Jesse Plemons, who worked on Antlers and Windfall, and will be in Bugonia with Emma Stone; Sandra Hüller, Oscar nominee for her role in Anatomy of a Fall; Riz Ahmed, who recently worked on Encounter, and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Sound of Metal, winning it as director for the short movie The Long Goodbye.

The other actors are Sophie Wilde, already seen in the TV series Boy Swallows Universe; Emma D'Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg and John Goodman. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who recently directed BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, The Revenant and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Oscar winner for best picture. "What I can tell you is that this is an unbridled comedy of catastrophic proportions - he said at the Cannes Film Festival - It's crazy. It makes me laugh every day. The variety I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was impressed and happy."

The screenplay is by the same director, written together with Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone, already long-time collaborators of Iñárritu, so much so that Giacobone also wrote Biutiful.

Digger, the Filming and the Movie Release Date

The production is by Warner Bros. and it is Cruise's first movie since he signed a deal to develop and produce movies with Warner Bros. Discovery in January 2024. Filming began in the United Kingdom on November 7, 2024, with Emmanuel Lubezki as director of photography and concluded at the end of April 2025. They were interrupted for two days in March 2025 when Goodman suffered a minor hip injury for which he was hospitalized. The budget is approximately 125 million dollars, and the movie is released in the United States on October 2, 2026.
