Diamond is the crime and mystery movie coming out. The plot focuses on Joe Diamond (Andy Garcia), a mysterious man who seems to have come out of another era. With his fedora, his dusty office and his secretary Elizabeth (LaTanya Richardson Jackson), Diamond lives as if he were still in the Forties.
He works in Los Angeles, with an extraordinary capacity for observation that allows him to solve cases that leave the police perplexed. The new investigation leads him to work for Sharon Cobbs (Vicky Krieps), a wealthy widow whose husband was found dead.
Andy García has recently worked in Father of the Bride and in episodes of Landman, and was nominated for the Oscar for his role in The Godfather Part III (1990). In the cast there are Brendan Fraser, recently seen in Rental Family and The Whale, which earned him the Oscar; Dustin Hoffman, performer in the new movie Turner, and who recently acted in the movie L'uomo del labirinto and in the TV series I Medici, winning the Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and Rain Man (1988).
Also present are Bill Murray, Rosemarie DeWitt, recently seen in Smile 2 and Out of My Mind; Danny Huston, who recently worked on The Naked Gun and Across the River and Into the Trees.
The direction is by Garcia himself, who has already directed Cachao… Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos from 1993 and The Lost City from 2005, the latter also performed by Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray. The movie made its world debut at the Cannes Festival 2026, in the Out of Competition section, receiving an eight-minute ovation: "The greatest reward that anyone can have as a director is to have colleagues like Dustin and Bill, and Yul Vazquez, and LaTanya Richardson, and Brendan Fraser, and Demian Bichir, and Rachel Ticotin, who come and bless your movie" he said. Garcia conceived the initial idea fifteen years ago, while helping his daughter Daniella with a school assignment that required writing a short story in the style of The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler. "As you know, this has been a twenty-year journey and I couldn't think of a more sacred place than this to share this very personal journey," Garcia declared: "We all grow up with a dream, and I can say this to young people who have dreams: there is no great obstacle that cannot be overcome by a dream. So follow your dream. Keep moving forward".
The movie is produced by CineSon Productions, Black Cap Pictures and FMJ Entertainment. The filming took place at Bradbury Building and the Paramour Estate.
