The Unchosen: The Thriller Exploring the Boundaries of a Religious Sect with Molly Windsor and Asa Butterfield
Discover the plot, cast and release date of The Unchosen, the new Netflix series that tells the story of Rosie, a woman
The six-episode series created by Julie Gearey takes the viewer behind the closed doors of a fictional Christian religious sect. Windsor, known for Three Girls, plays Rosie, a devoted wife and mother who embarks on a dangerous journey of female emancipation and sexual awakening following a fateful encounter with Sam, an escaped convict played by Fra Fee, already seen in Rebel Moon.
The Plot of The Unchosen: Between Faith and Freedom
Rosie lives in an isolated Christian community with her husband Adam, played by Butterfield, and their daughter. The arrival of the mysterious Sam, an escaped prisoner, brings to light the reality and restrictions of Rosie's world: perhaps her hidden religious community does not have her best interests at heart.
As cracks begin to appear in Rosie and Adam's marriage, Sam presents himself as Rosie's savior. But with his dark criminal past, where does the greatest danger lie: in the sect or in Sam?
The Cast of The Unchosen: From Sex Education to Doctor Who
The series brings together a cast that includes Molly Windsor in the role of Rosie, Asa Butterfield as Adam, Fra Fee in the role of Sam, Siobhan Finneran as Mrs. Phillips and Christopher Eccleston in the role of Mr. Phillips.
In the teaser trailer, religious leader Mr. Phillips speaks words that reveal the nature of the community: "We are blessed to live our lives within this community, where love binds us and our families flourish, where our women nurture and our men provide, safe from the temptations of the world outside and from the evil that lies within." The images in the clip, however, show a family life far from flourishing and an evil that dwells right within this closed community.
Who Created The Unchosen
Julie Gearey, already writer and creator of Intergalactic, is the writer, creator and executive producer of The Unchosen. Iona Vrolyk and Myar Craig-Brown are executive producers for Double Dutch Productions, while Nick Pitt is producer. Philippa Langdale, known for A Discovery of Witches, and Jim Loach of Criminal Record direct the episodes of the series.
Molly Windsor recently worked on The Burning Girls, while Asa Butterfield appeared in the fourth season of Sex Education. Fra Fee played Atticus Noble in Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon - Part 2: The Scargiver, while Christopher Eccleston returned to the role of the Ninth Doctor in Doctor Who for some audio projects. Siobhan Finneran, after Happy Valley, participated in The Responder and continues to be a constant presence in the British television landscape.
