The Last Observers is a short documentary directed by Maja K. Mikkelsen. Thanks to a collaboration between Voce Spettacolo and Patagona Films, it is in the running for the 2026 Oscars.

The film centres on Karin Persson and Lennart Karlsson, who have been recording weather conditions at one of Sweden's last manual weather stations every three hours, day and night, for almost forty years. Their dedication becomes an act of resistance and harmony with nature, offering a universal meditation on care, time and the human commitment to the environment.

Karin and Lennart have dedicated their lives to this cause, recording weather conditions every three hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year. When they first met, there were more than 200 manual weather stations in Sweden and thousands around the world, all run by observers who diligently watched and recorded the weather. In recent decades, automated stations have replaced observers one after another, but Karin and Lennart have resisted.

The short film has already been seen and appreciated by over 1.5 million people worldwide. "This film goes beyond observation; it speaks to the essence of care, patience and our shared responsibility towards the planet," says Walter Nicoletti, founder of Voce Spettacolo.
