Shrek 5, the Plot

Shrek 5 is the animated movie coming out. It is the sequel to Shrek Forever After (2010), in which Shrek is projected into an alternative timeline where Rumpelstiltskin reigns. The franchise was born in 2001, showing a humor that involved both children and adults.

The plot has not yet been revealed, but it will take place in a big city. Among the protagonists, there are the three children of Shrek and Fiona. Producer Chris Meledandri has confirmed that the directors would "examine what are the fundamental elements that the audience loved" and tried to "honor those elements" in a similar way to the movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie, also by Illumination. According to some sources, the plot is set in the mid-credits scene of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), spin-off of Shrek. It should be a standalone adventure, and in March 2024 Meledandri revealed he had written a new treatment for the story.

"Once upon a time there was a hideous ogre and a delirious donkey" says the voice in the released movie trailer. "You just can't hold back, can you?" Shrek asks Donkey, who is ready to start a journey. Everyone arrives in the city, and then they find themselves in prison.

Shrek 5, the Cast

The setting will still be in the Kingdom of Farquad, and the characters will still be Shrek (Mike Myers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and the rest of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Duloc. Myers, Murphy and Diaz had stated that they will make another Shrek movie whenever there is the possibility.

Skyler Gisondo voices Farkle, Marcello Hernández voices Fergus, and Zendaya voices Felicia. The direction is by Brad Ableson, Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon. The movie is based on Shrek!, a fantasy picture book published in 1990, written and illustrated by American writer and cartoonist William Steig. The 2009 movie grossed $756.2 million, and the sequel will be released on July 30, 2027.

Shrek - from 2001 - is followed by Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek Forever After (2010). The four movies are available in streaming on Amazon Prime Video and NOW. All are on-demand on Prime Video, iTunes and Microsoft Store.
