We meet Adam Ambruso, among his performances Running Wild with Sharon Stone and expected to be cast in the thriller-horror Eyes in the Trees with, among others, Anthony Hopkins. Can you introduce your role in the upcoming Eyes in the Trees? What is the plot about? If you can reveal it.

I’m excited to be a part of this epic project. This is the modern remake of the classic best-selling novel “The Island of Dr Moreau.”  This movie has the timeless plot of the somewhat “mad scientist” played by Sir Anthony Hopkins who is going to live on a remote island so that he can conduct  risky and controversial biological science experiments on animals, in this case monkeys, that eventually goes very wrong and becomes deadly. I play the role of an American living in Thailand who is a mob boss of sorts, controlling and running a prominent gambling ring in Bangkok. The protagonist, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyer, crosses my path when he shows up at one of my gambling tables while doing some investigative journalism.

You were also the producer of the critically acclaimed short film Diwa, about a sensitive and important topic, what convinced you about this project?

I was honored to be asked to be an Executive Producer on this project.  The writers, creators, and the lead actor are dear friends of mine, so when they let me know what they were up to, I was happy to help get the project made.  Having key relationships like these and supporting your friends and colleagues in this business is extremely important and is oftentimes critical to getting projects across the finish line.

Among your upcoming castings is one for the movie Dream Big, can you tell us what it is about?

Dream Big has been an important project and is very dear to me.  We actually already shot the feature-length pilot in Los Angeles several months ago.  We are adding key elements to it and are in the post-production phase now.  This story centers around several characters that are all physically challenged in some way.  The story follows the ensemble cast as their lives start to intertwine.  As their lives become intertwined, they unlock each other’s “superpower” in life that helps them leap beyond their perceived physical limitations.  It is a beautiful story about hopes, dreams and pushing beyond your perceived limitations.  The co-creator of this project unfortunately lost his legs in a tragic car accident in front of Erewhon supermarket in Los Angeles a few years ago.  He directed the pilot and also played one of the title characters in it as well.  He was slated to play that character in the rest of the series until his untimely death occurred this year.  He was a very close friend, and is severely missed.

You are also a screenwriter, what are your favorite stories to tell? And which characters do you like to narrate?

I like to tell stories that excite me, which tend to be ones of epic scale and that elicit the full range of emotions. I am also equally drawn to stories that move me and change me in some way. Sometimes the best ones are based on true stories or events.

Besides Eyes in the Trees and Dream Big, are there any other projects that Adam Ambruso would like to do in the near future?

Yes, I would love to tackle a legacy project and really help to create an entire world.  Moreover, I am very much looking to pour myself into and embody a complex character…maybe even a historical figure.  I have my eye on a script right now that fits this description, and I’m always searching for others.
