Interview with author John Connolly
John Connolly's best known for the Charlie Parker Series.
Since "Every Dead Thing" (1999), has Charlie Parker changed his character, as habits, desires?
I think in Every Dead Thing he began as a being of rage and pain, and it almost destroyed him. But about halfway through that book he recognises a duty towards others, and as the series has progressed he has become almost Christlike in his capacity for empathy. He will take on the pain of others, and in that way he will make reparation for his own failings, and seek a kind of salvation.
