You also wrote the book "The Book of Lost Things" and "The Domain": The Chronicles of the Invaders". Do you think science fiction or mystery is the best way to describe reality?

I think genre fiction, like any fiction, works as a prism: it refracts rather than reflects reality, and allows us to see it in new and different ways. Also, because genre fiction is often viewed purely as entertainment, a writer can sneak in a lot of stuff under the wire without appearing to preach.
