Reminders Of Him, Interview Maika Monroe
The statements of Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers
Maika Monroe: I think the biggest theme for me, and what really drew me to the character and the script, was the power of forgiveness and second chances. It’s such a human story about people who have made mistakes and are trying to find their way back to some sort of peace or redemption. And Colleen, our director, had such a clear vision of how to balance the heavy emotional parts with moments of real beauty and hope. She made the set feel like a very safe space to explore those really difficult, vulnerable feelings, which I think was essential for a story like this.
Alfie Withers: Yeah, I completely agree. For me, it was also about the complexity of grief and how it’s not just one thing. It’s messy, and it affects everyone differently. My character is navigating his own version of that, and trying to figure out how to be there for someone else while he’s still processing his own pain. Working with Maika was incredible because we really had to trust each other to get to those raw places. And Colleen was there every step of the way, guiding us but also giving us the freedom to find those moments ourselves. She has this incredible empathy that just permeates everything she does.
Maika Monroe: She really does. And I think that empathy is what makes the film feel so universal. Even if you haven't been through these exact situations, you understand the feeling of wanting to be forgiven or wanting to move past something that’s been holding you back. It’s a very hopeful movie, ultimately, despite the sadness that’s woven into it.
Alfie Withers: Exactly. It’s about the resilience of the human spirit and the fact that, you know, even in the darkest times, there’s a possibility for connection and for healing. I’m just really proud to be a part of a story that feels this honest.
