Tv series Stargirl, interview with actress Joy Osmanski
Here you play Paula Brooks / Tigress. Can you tell us about your character? What is the plot of the series?
So when I auditioned, I had no idea that it was a dual character. All I knew was that Paula was dark and duplicitous and funny. It was only after I was cast that I found out about Tigress. Amazing! So Paula teaches and coaches at the high school and is hyper athletic and aggressive. She definitely has a “no mercy” competitive mentality, which is so fun to play. But she’s also a wife and a mother and cares deeply about her family. As Tigress, I feel like all those qualities are magnified, and that she’s able to act on them in ways she doesn’t have permission to as Paula.
Stargirl centers around Brec’s character, Courtney Whitmore, who’s transplanted to a new town after her mom (Amy Smart) marries her stepdad (Luke Wilson). Blended family and a new home, new school, nothing familiar — that can be so scary. But after Courtney discovers the Cosmic Staff hidden in the basement, everything starts to change. This series really combines all the elements I love...discovery, transformation, good vs evil, and it’s funny and moving.
