N.E.E.T.: the plot of the movie
N.E.E.T. is an upcoming comedy film centered around the lives of four young individuals who find themselves unexpectedly involved in a government initiative: the reintroduction of mandatory military service. This decision is made by an authoritarian and conservative minister (Caterina Murino) and is presented as a coercive solution to a deeply rooted problem in Italian society. One million young people under 30 will be required to serve, with only one month to find a real job to avoid a full year of compulsory service.
N.E.E.T.: the cast of the movie
Caterina Murino, known for her role as Solange in *Casino Royale*, also stars in *Good Vibes* and episodes of *Escort Boys*. The cast includes Fabrizio Biggio, who appeared in *Omicidio all’italiana* and was part of the television show *Viva Rai 2* with Rosario Fiorello; he co-directed *La solita commedia - Inferno* with Francesco Mandelli. Dario Bandiera, seen in *Natale da chef* and *Io che amo solo te*, and Maurizio Bousso, known for *Ricomincio da TAAAC* and episodes of *Sempre al tuo fianco*, also feature in the film. Directed by Andrea Biglione, who previously helmed *Almeno tu nell'universo* and the short film *Drony*, the screenplay is co-written by Biglione and Daniele Locci, with contributions from Daniele Trombetti and Clelio D'Ostuni. "Our work tells the story of four N.E.E.T.s that I like to define as 'asymptomatic,'" states the director. "In recent years, Italy has consistently had a N.E.E.T. rate above 20% (even reaching 26%), holding the European record for several years... While mandatory service is often used punitively, it can actually serve as a means that some manage to leverage to their advantage."
N.E.E.T.: Production and release date
The film is produced by Cydia and Stemo Production. The military-inspired soundtrack is "inspired by *Police Academy*," confirms the director, featuring tracks that represent three different generations: the 1980s with CCCP's "Io sto bene," "Futuro" by Psicologi representing Gen Z in my film, and the original song "N.E.E.T." by Giancane, which portrays millennials in a two-faced ballad—one more "rural" and the other designed to get people moshing at concerts. The film is set to hit theaters on January 16, 2025.
