The Miami Film Festival opens today its 43rd edition. Eighty fiction movies are screened, to which documentaries are added.

1001 Frames takes place in a famous director’s studio, where women participate in auditions for a role and realize he has in mind something more than a simple casting choice. A Loose End (Un cabo suelto)is the story of an Argentine policeman on the run, who tries to disappear in Uruguay; A Mosquito in the Ear focuses on a married couple who travel to Goa to bring home their newly adopted daughter, but she wants to leave India to become their daughter.


Following are Adult Children, Best in Show – Paws in the Park, Blue Heron and The Blue Trail BookendsBroken Voices tells of young Karolina chosen as a soloist in a children’s choir, but this attracts unwanted attention and envy from other students and her sister; California Schemin marks actor James McAvoy’s directorial debut, recounting the events of two Scots who pretend to be American to realize their dream of becoming hip-hop stars.


Carolina Caroline sees Caroline enter the orbit of a con artist, and the two join together giving life to an intricate path of crime and passion;The Christopher tells of the children of a once-famous artist (Ian McKellen) who hire a forger (Michaela Coel) to complete his unfinished canvases.


Following are Colors of Time, Comandante Fritz, The Cost of Heaven, Dancing on the Elephant, The Dinner, Edie Arnold is a Loser, El Regresado, Erupcja, Eva and Adán in Miami.

Flavia tells of Flavia, amateur detective, master of poisoning, at 11 years old; Forgia shows the art forger gang of brothers Raymond and Coco Zhang, which thrives when they meet a disgraced millionaire who needs their particular expertise. The Gymnast sees a talented 16-year-old gymnast and her single father struggle to reinvent themselves after an injury that could have ended her career. Happy Birthday tells of an eight-year-old domestic worker who does everything to ensure that her best friend, her employer’s daughter, celebrates her birthday in an unforgettable way.

Hokum- with Adam Scott - focuses on a horror novelist who travels to an inn in Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes, unaware that the place is haunted. Following are - among others - Heysel 85,  I Want Your Sex,  The King of the Internet,  The Last Viking, One Life, Whiplash in Concert. For Italy there is La Gioia, about Gioia Montefiori (Valeria Golino) who has dedicated her life to the work of French teacher in a high school in Piedmont, but everything changes when she meets Alessio, a former high school classmate of hers, cynical and manipulative, constantly in search of money to indulge his vices.

In preview will be screened Tuner - with Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman - about the story of Niki, young piano tuner whose extremely fine hearing attracts the attention of criminals.
