Running Point Season 2 Release Date, Cast & Trailer for Netflix Basketball Series in Los Angeles
Running Point Season 2 Premiere Date and New Trailer for Netflix Basketball Comedy
Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is back, ready to prove that the Game 7 loss was just a fluke. This season, Isla and her underdog basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves, aim to win it all. The determination is clear in the new adrenaline-filled trailer for Running Point Season 2, available now.
Running Point Season 1 Recap: Mindy Kaling’s Basketball Comedy Inspired by Los Angeles Lakers Legend
From the mind of Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever) and inspired by Los Angeles Lakers legend Jeanie Buss, the first season of the beloved sports comedy followed the reformed party girl’s rise to lead the Gordon family basketball dynasty. Season 2 returns on April 23, 2026.
Running Point Season 2 Plot Preview: Isla Gordon Faces New Family Challenges in Los Angeles
The Season 1 finale left plenty of room for Isla, the outsider president, to do what she does best: think outside the box. In the trailer, Isla and her brothers Ness (Scott MacArthur), Sandy (Drew Tarver), and Jackie (Fabrizio Guido) reunite with their wayward brother Cam (Justin Theroux), who unexpectedly returns early from rehab.
The eldest Gordon sibling says he is a new man and happy to work under his younger sister, personally chosen as his successor at the start of Season 1. But in a competitive family like the Gordons, a truce lasts only so long. Though his demotion freed his daily schedule (he is seen reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid in the trailer), his reaction to the book’s emotional ending suggests he may not be as reformed as he claims.
Running Point Season 2 Cast Updates: New Faces Join Returning Stars in Los Angeles
Isla tries to keep the chaos under control with help from her best friend and LA Waves chief of staff Ali (Brenda Song). But in Season 2, Ali may have bigger ambitions beyond managing players like MVP Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman) and wildcard point guard Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks).
Hanks said that watching episodes back, he is struck by how funny his colleagues are. “Everyone stands out in their character, and the way we interact feels so natural,” says the actor.
Running Point Season 2 New Characters and Guest Stars in Los Angeles Basketball Series
After Isla and her fiancé Lev (Max Greenfield) called off their engagement in Season 1, she kisses coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis) just as he prepares to move to Boston for a new job.
The trailer also teases a lineup of new faces shaking things up in Season 2, including Ray Romano as the new LA Waves coach, with guest appearances by Lisa Rinna, Ken Marino, Nicole Richie, Octavia Spencer, Scott Speedman, and more.
Running Point Season 2 Production Team and Showrunner Details
Ike Barinholtz (The Studio, The Mindy Project) is part of the cast. As with Season 1, Barinholtz writes and produces alongside Mindy Kaling and David Stassen (The Mindy Project). Stassen serves as showrunner. Jeanie Buss executive produces with Linda Rambis, Kate Hudson, and Howard Klein (The Office). Jordan Rambis is producer.
