Night Patrol, the Plot of the Movie

Night Patrol is an upcoming thriller and horror movie. The plot centers on an African American Los Angeles police officer who discovers that a local police task force is hiding a horrific secret, endangering residents of the housing complexes where he grew up. The officer consequently puts aside his conflicts with the area’s street gangs.

“When will you reveal the great secret hidden here?” a colleague asks the officer. “Want to do a night patrol? This is the right place,” he responds. What follows are shootouts with gangs and the presence of vampires.

Night Patrol, the Movie Cast

The cast features Dermot Mulroney, known for Like Father, Like Son and the TV series Chicago Fire: he has appeared in movies such as My Best Friend’s Wedding and The Family Stone.

Also starring are Justin Long, previously seen in Live Free or Die Hard and Goosebumps; and wrestler CM Punk. The movie is directed by Ryan Prows, who previously helmed Lowlife and Boomerang Kids.

Night Patrol, Critical Reviews and Release Date

The movie premiered at the Fantastic Fest in September 2025, where it received positive reviews. According to Daily Dead, “Night Patrol might be too cinematic, a rawer exploitation movie that gets lost in exaggerating its due negative reactions, but it’s a worthy midnight movie at the crossroads between gratuitous carnage and justified rage.”

Bloody Disgusting writes, “It might not have fully developed its themes by the time the credits roll, but a committed cast and some exceptional performances, not to mention the technical prowess demonstrated by Prows: all of this allows the movie to overcome its flaws.”

 RogerEbert.com states, “This is an original and ambitious work that IFC should be able to transform into a catalyst for enthusiasm for early 2026.” The movie releases in the United States on January 16, 2026.
