Stroncone, municipality of Italy
Stroncone is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Terni in the Italian region Umbria. The first document attesting to the existence of the residence dates back to 1012, when Giovanni di Pietro gave to the monastery of San Simeone his possessions located in the territory of Stroncone. The Monastery has been restored and can still be visited. In the Palazzo Comunale nine chorales with precious capital letters are preserved. The convent of Saint Francis of Assisi was founded by Francis himself in 1213: it preserves one of the richest Franciscan collections in Umbria. The Prati allow you to go trekking: from here you follow the Via di Francesco which leads to the Sanctuary of Greccio, where St. Francis created the living nativity scene. In Stroncone the Italian Baroque composer Asprilio Pacelli was born. In 1603 he moved to Warsaw, at the invitation of Sigismund III, King of Poland: here he became master of the royal chapel. The Abbey of St. Benedict in Fundis dates back to the period between the 9th and 10th centuries.
