EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival 2026: Stripping Down Between Identity and Contemporary Photography

EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival 2026 will take place from April 9 to June 2 in the Piedmontese capital, reaching its third edition under the artistic direction of Walter Guadagnini, a prominent figure in the Italian and international contemporary photography scene. The theme chosen for this edition, "Stripping Down," invites a deep reflection on identity, representation, and the relationship between body and image, between the visible and the invisible.

The festival is structured as a widespread program involving not only the main cultural venues of Turin but also less conventional urban spaces such as arcades, gates, and parking lots, transforming the city into an open-air exhibition platform. This choice emphasizes the intention to make photography accessible to a broad and diverse audience, fostering direct dialogue between works, places, and citizens.

Among the indoor exhibitions stand out projects like "Women in View" by Toni Thorimbert, which through sixty photographs retraces over thirty years of female portraits, and the photographic production of director Yorgos Lanthimos, who explores the boundary between cinema and photography with a conceptual and unsettling gaze. The collective exhibition "Metamorphosis" brings together young international artists investigating individual and social transformation, while other exhibitions address themes of memory, body, and identity with different approaches.

The festival is not limited to mere exhibition but is configured as a structured curatorial device, capable of guiding content and languages in constant dialogue with the public. Initiatives such as "Esterno Notte," open-air screenings that animate the streets of Turin, and the international competition "EXPOSED feat Witty Books Dummy Award" demonstrate the commitment to involve both professionals and the general public.

Promoted by a broad steering committee including the City of Turin, the Piedmont Region, the Turin Chamber of Commerce, and other foundations, the festival represents a significant cultural and social investment. As emphasized by the Piedmont Region, photography confirms itself as a powerful tool to read the present, build collective awareness, and stimulate cultural change.

EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival thus proposes itself not only as an artistic event but as an opportunity to interrogate contemporary reality through the lens of photography, stripping bare not only bodies but also identities and the tensions of current society. The city itself becomes the stage and protagonist of this reflection, in a path that intertwines history, memory, and visual innovation.
