In the book, the relationship with the father is of particular importance. Because?

It’s the foundation the book stands on. My father and I had a “unique” and knotted relationship. But there was love there. When he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, he needed someone to help take care of him, I dropped everything to do so and went to Mexico where he was living. I knew the clock was ticking. I not only wanted to help him, but take advantage of what time was left to reconnect, get a better understanding of our relationship, be close, throwing any other bullshit to the side. I didn’t want any regrets of not doing so, which was a selfish motive, but a real one nonetheless. I felt he too saw this as the last opportunity for us to do so. It served as the main theme of the book that tied in all the other tales of debauchery, shame, love, and wildness.
