The Style Guide for Journalists Reporting on Sex and Gender

What do you think is the cause of these journalistic errors?
Journalists are being put in a hard position by activist organizations that have captured the mainstream narrative. Most journalists genuinely want to do the right thing, but the conversation has largely been driven by an online culture of fear. Journalists who fairly report on these issues are met with abuse and harassment, and in some cases, are even fired for doing their job. Newsrooms and editorial staff are being bullied by a small minority of online activists into a position that is not even supported by the majority of American voters. Civil society organizations, like the SPJ, that are tasked with providing leadership and guidance on these issues have abandoned ship and let extremists take the helm.
That being said, this is all a result of a larger culture of misogyny that routinely denies the global terror of male violence against women and girls, sees “womanhood” as a collection of sex-stereotypes, and fails to uphold the boundaries of gays and lesbians.
