98th Oscars Red Carpet Rollout in Los Angeles: Conan O'Brien Unveils 900-Foot Hollywood Icon
Dolby Theatre Hosts Historic Ceremony as 400-Person Team Prepares 33-Foot-Wide Carpet for Academy Awards 2026
The red carpet rollout ceremony was held yesterday in Los Angeles, with host Conan O'Brien in attendance.
The carpet measures 900 feet in length—a considerable distance when one considers that stars must traverse it under the scrutiny of hundreds of photographers and journalists.
The 33-foot-wide carpet is laid out days before the ceremony and requires a team of more than 400 people to prepare. Planning for the operation begins a year in advance, immediately following the conclusion of the previous ceremony.
As for the Oscars, the red carpet became a permanent fixture at the ceremony starting in 1961. Before then, the ceremonies were held at different locations and the red carpet was not yet the iconic ritual we know today.
