Discover the ranking of the most-watched movies in the USA, from Mercy to Avatar: Fire and Ash: plot and cast
The box office of the most-watched movies in the United States from January 23 to 25, 2025 - with still provisional data - sees the new entry Mercy in first place ($11,100,000): in a near future, a detective is on trial accused of killing his wife. He has ninety minutes to prove his innocence to an advanced artificial intelligence judge he once championed.
Avatar: Fire and Ash drops to second place ($378,492,585): the Sully family is devastated by Neteyam’s death, while the mother and Jake blame their younger son, Lo’ak, for not following orders. Meanwhile, Colonel Quaritch continues his ruthless hunt for Jake: Spider, Quaritch’s human son, risks dying when his mask battery runs out. To save him, colleagues decide to return him to the rebel earthlings but, during the journey, they are attacked by the violent Ash Clan: Jake’s children are captured by the Iwa-nawii tribe, led by the ferocious Varang.
Zootopia 2 remains third ($401,427,846): Judy and Nick find themselves on the tortuous trail of a mysterious reptile that arrives in Zootopia and throws the mammal metropolis into chaos. To solve the case, they must go undercover in new and unknown areas of the city.
The Housemaid stays fourth ($115,451,843): a struggling woman, released from prison, begins working as a maid for a wealthy, elite couple. She realizes that the matriarch, Nina, behaves very strangely toward her, and that the husband, Andrew Winchester, could be her salvation.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple loses three positions to fifth ($13,000,000): while Spike is introduced into Jimmy Crystal’s gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could change the world.
Another new entry is in seventh place with Return to Silent Hill ($3,252,000): when a man receives a mysterious letter from his lost love, he is drawn to Silent Hill, a once-familiar town, now consumed by darkness.
At fourteenth is Clika ($1,275,000): a small-town musician, after a video of him performing one of his songs goes viral, tries to carve out a place in the new wave of Mexican-American music.
At twenty-sixth is H Is for Hawk ($148,585): after losing her beloved father, Helen is saved by an unlikely friendship with a stubborn hawk named Mabel.
At twenty-seventh is Standout: The Ben Kjar Story ($141,350): Ben Kjar was born with Crouzon syndrome, a rare craniofacial disease. From birth, doctors warned him that his life would be dominated by limitations, bullying, and strict controls: wrestling became his testing ground, learning to transform his facial difference into a source of power.
At thirty-second is the re-release of the animated movie Arco ($51,392), nominated for an Oscar: a boy travels and lands in 2075, where a girl, Iris, helps him return to the year 3000. At thirty-ninth is Mr. Nobody Against Putin ($13,030), also nominated for best documentary: a Russian teacher secretly documents the transformation of his small town’s school into a recruitment center for the war during the invasion of Ukraine. It reveals the ethical dilemmas teachers face between propaganda and militarization.
