The Breadwinner, the plot of the movie

The Breadwinner is the comedy movie coming soon. The plot follows Nate Wilcox (Nate Bargatze), father of three young daughters. His life is turned upside down when his wife Katie (Mandy Moore) obtains an important contract after appearing on Shark Tank, forcing her to leave for a long business trip.

Nate must manage the household as a stay-at-home father for the first time: he quickly discovers that managing a family is the hardest job he’s ever had, especially when a horse starts exploring the house.

“I’m the best salesman at the dealership,” he boasts to his wife in the released trailer. “I think I can handle a month alone with the girls. You’re acting like I’m going to blow up the house.” “Don’t you know where our schools are?” asks the daughter while he drives the kids in the car.

Nate Bargatze works in various stand-up comedy. Mandy Moore is an actress in the TV series This Is Us and Dr. Death. The cast also includes Kumail Nanjiani, nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of The Big Sick, and actor in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire; Colin Jost, previously seen in Saturday Night Live; Will Forte and Zach Cherry.

The direction is by Eric Appel, who has previously directed Die Hart and episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Silicon Valley. “I think there’s a shortage of entertainment made for entire families - said Bargatze - there are so few movies where everyone, of any age, can laugh together. This is a movie with characters everyone can identify with.”

The Breadwinner, the filming and release date of the movie

The production is by TriStar Pictures and Wonder Project. Filming took place in the Atlanta metropolitan area, Georgia, from May to July 2025: they then moved to Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, McDonough. The movie releases in US theaters on March 13, 2026.
