Godzilla Minus Zero: the plot of the movie

Godzilla Minus Zero is the action and fantasy movie coming out. It is the sequel to Godzilla Minus One (2023), in which post-war Japan faces a crisis in the form of a giant monster, which has the same power as the atomic bomb.

The plot of the sequel is set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One: Godzilla has regenerated, and this time has New York City as its target.

In the trailer released at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, pilot Kôichi Shikishima (Ryûnosuke Kamiki) is in flight facing debris. Then Godzilla emerges from the sea, approaching the Statue of Liberty.

"In the previous movie, post-war Japan had been reduced to less than zero by Godzilla's attack - Yamazaki explained - People struggled to get back up and look to the future. But in this movie, an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family. Faced with an overwhelming and relentless force, how will people react? The journey from Minus to Zero will not be easy".

Godzilla Minus Zero: the cast of the movie

Ryunosuke Kamiki returns in the role of Kōichi Shikishima, the former kamikaze pilot tormented by guilt: he recently acted in the movie Godzilla Minus One and in the tv series Your Turn to Kill. Minami Hamabe - who also appeared in episodes of Silent - is Noriko Ōishi: "My heart is already beating fast at the idea of sharing this grandiose moment with everyone as soon as possible. I am very happy to be able to share Godzilla's shocking return not only with people in Japan, but also with those in America" she stated.

Also present is Miou Tanaka, already seen in the tv series Hanzawa Naoki. The direction is by Takashi Yamazaki, who already directed Godzilla Minus One, the first non-English language movie to win the Oscar award in 2024 for Best Visual Effects: he is also working on his first English-language movie, Grandgear, an epic battle between giant robots produced by J.J. Abrams for Bad Robot, scheduled for 2028.

Godzilla Minus Zero: production and release date

The previous movie grossed 116 million dollars worldwide.

Filming began in Ibaraki Prefecture in August 2025, and concluded the following month, with a budget of fifteen million dollars. It also took place in New Zealand and Norway. The movie is released in the United States on November 6, 2026.
