Forbidden Fruits, the movie plot
Forbidden Fruits is the comedy and horror movie coming out. Apple (Lili Reinhart) works at Free Eden, a bohemian clothing store in a Dallas mall. The prices aren’t for everyone: $400 for a garment, over $2000 for a complete outfit. But after closing time, in the store’s basement, Apple secretly runs a female cult with witchcraft undertones together with her colleagues Cherry and Fig.
The Free Eden girls use coordinated fruit-shaped bracelets for their nocturnal rituals. Everything changes when Pumpkin (Lola Tung) arrives, the new hire who works at the Sister Salt pretzel kiosk.
Forbidden Fruits, the movie cast
Lili Reinhart has worked on the TV series Riverdale, Hal & Harper - alongside Mark Ruffalo and Cooper Raiff - a performance that earned her the Best Actress award at Series Mania. Lola Tung is known for her role in the episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The cast also includes Victoria Pedretti, recently seen in the series You, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor; Alexandra Shipp, who acted in Barbie; Gabrielle Union, now in theaters with GOAT.
The direction is by Meredith Alloway, making her feature movie debut after directing various shorts. “When I first read the screenplay, I was drawn to the characters and their complex friendship dynamics,” Tung told Teen Vogue. “I’ve never played anyone like Apple. And I couldn’t get the idea of embodying her out of my head,” Reinhart stated. As Victoria Pedretti observed, the message that struck her most is “the complete destruction of oneself in exchange for the illusion of belonging.”
The screenplay was included in the 2023 Black List of most appreciated scripts: the production is by Diablo Cody, Oscar winner for the screenplay of Juno: “Forbidden Fruits grabbed me by the throat the first time I read it - Cody told Deadline - it’s one of the craziest, most creative and wonderfully insane projects I’ve ever worked on.”
Forbidden Fruits, the shooting and release date of the movie
The production is by MXN Entertainment. Shooting took place in Toronto between March and April 2025, and the movie will be presented at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2026: it comes out in American theaters on March 27, 2026.
