HUI Milano FW26-27: Weaving Tradition into Contemporary Fashion at Milan Fashion Week 2026
Huizhou Zhao presents Her Threads, a collection rooted in the ancient art of Nü Gong embroidery for the modern stage
On March 1st, 2026, at Milan Fashion Week, HUI Milano unveiled Her Threads, the FW26-27 collection by Huizhou Zhao, a recognized ambassador of Chinese style in Italy. The collection draws deeply from the ancient tradition of Nü Gong (女红), a feminine embroidery art that transcends mere craft to embody identity, memory, and resilience.
Nü Gong represents a silent heritage passed down through generations, a form of domestic wisdom where women have stitched emotions, hopes, and personal narratives into the fabric of their lives. With Her Threads, HUI Milano elevates this intimate practice into a powerful visual narrative designed for an international audience.
The runway show was conceived as an immersive journey through suspended threads, symbolizing the various seasons of a woman’s life—from innocence to self-awareness, from invisibility to empowerment. The set design reflected emotional and social layers that transcend time. Embroidery in this collection is not decorative but a form of storytelling: stitches are discreetly placed inside garments, hidden along seams, cuffs, and backs, marking the often invisible labor that carries a legacy of memory and inner strength.
The threads evolve from delicate fibers into bold structural elements, metaphorically tracing the transformation of the female role from silent presence to conscious protagonist. The color palette follows this narrative arc, beginning with pale, ethereal tones, moving into deep, introspective shades, and culminating in luminous whites that evoke self-determination and freedom. As the show progressed, the space opened to light, reinforcing the central message that women are not bound by inherited systems but are the ones who weave the world.
Her Threads builds a bridge between Chinese cultural heritage and a contemporary global language, offering reflections on healing, continuity, and the generative power of womanhood. This project embodies the vision of Huizhou Zhao, who has dedicated her career to bridging Eastern craftsmanship with the Western fashion system.
HUI Milano’s FW26-27 collection demonstrates how traditional artisanal narratives can be integrated into modern fashion design, preserving intangible cultural heritage while addressing contemporary themes.
