A Conservative Housewife in the World of Porn

Valladolid, 1998. Nines is a housewife with conservative principles who finds herself managing the family video store when her husband falls into a coma. The discovery is bitter: the business is on the verge of bankruptcy. However, there is one genre that continues to generate profits: porn.

Nines's decision is radical. She transforms "Dorothy" into the city's first adult video store, specializing in the only sector that guarantees revenue.

The Cast of Naughty Business: Malena Alterio and Álvaro Mel

Malena Alterio plays Nines, the protagonist who goes through this unexpected metamorphosis. By her side, Álvaro Mel in the role of Agustín, a passionate movie buff who becomes one of the pillars of the new management. Chon, the colorful-language employee played by Esperanza de la Encarnación, completes the trio that will transform the video store into the epicenter of a social earthquake in the neighborhood.

The cast also includes Josele Román, Raquel Pérez in the role of Mariví, Albert Baró, David Castillo and Chani Martín as Mariano. Eight episodes that tell how sexual liberation becomes unstoppable, even when it starts from the most unlikely place.

Spain in 1998 is a country in transition, where the liberalization of customs still coexists with conservative legacies. Nines, Chon and Agu become, in spite of themselves, agents of change. Specialization in the adult genre is not just a commercial choice, but becomes the catalyst for conversations never addressed, for broken taboos.

Malena Alterio, an actress with long experience in the Spanish panorama, continues her path in productions that explore female complexity. Álvaro Mel, after the success of Through My Window and participation in La dama boba, consolidates his presence in Netflix productions. Esperanza de la Encarnación brings to the screen a character that breaks the mold with her frankness, while the rest of the cast builds a mosaic of personalities that represent Valladolid in the late nineties.

The series fits into a strand of Spanish productions that in recent years have explored themes related to sexuality and the liberation of customs, from Valeria to Intimacy, passing through Veneno. Naughty Business chooses historical setting, looking at that moment of transition between two centuries, between two ways of conceiving public and private morality.
