Normal, the movie plot
Normal is the upcoming crime and action movie. The plot centers on Ulysses (Bob Odenkirk), a deputy sheriff with a troubled past who, after moving to a small and sleepy town, faces a bank robbery.
What seems like a simple provincial crime instead reveals a darker secret of the community. When the town’s sordid secret begins to emerge, it triggers a furious shootout, and Ulysses finds himself in conflict with his own fellow citizens.
Normal, the movie cast
Bob Odenkirk has recently worked in Nobody and the TV series Better Call Saul.
The cast also includes Henry Winkler, who played Fonzie in Happy Days: he recently participated in HBO’s series Barry, winning an Emmy for his performance, and in the independent movie The Resilient.
Also present are Lena Headey, famous for her role as Cersei Lannister in episodes ofGame of Thrones, who recently appeared in the thriller Gunpowder Milkshake and the series White House Plumbers; Reena Jolly and Brendan Fletcher, both recently seen in episodes of The Crossing and the horror movie The Midnight Club.
The direction is by Ben Wheatley, who directed Shark 2 - The Abyss, Normalitself and Rebecca. The screenplay is by Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick saga.
Normal, the production and filming of the movie

Normal, critical reviews and release date of the movie
The movie was presented at the Toronto Film Festival 2025, where it received positive reviews. For Collider, “there are one or two subplots that seem a bit underdeveloped, but it’s easy to forgive them because the movie is lively and entertaining. Like its affable hero, Normal is impossible to ignore and proves that when Odenkirk plays an action role, things are anything but normal.”
For The Wrap, “as long as Odenkirk’s gruff sheriff keeps his coffee and mustache intact, he’s the key to finding the perfect balance. No matter how many hits the movie and he take, the joy of watching him swing freely makes the movie fun for the whole family.”
More critical is Screen Daily, for whom “Wheatley’s hyperbolic scenes come across as superficial, rather than euphoric or hilarious and thunderous.” The movie releases in US theaters on April 17, 2026.
