The Wrong Girls is the comedy movie coming out. The plot centers on follows Frankie (Kristen Stewart) and Molly (Alia Shawkat), best codependent friends who live without a regular paycheck: but an identity swap throws their lives into chaos.

Kristen Stewart recently worked in Love Lies Bleeding, Crimes of the Future and Spencer, for which interpretation she was nominated for an Oscar. Alia Shawkat acted in the TV series Poker Face, and participated in the podcast The Big Fix: A Jack Bergin Mystery.

In the cast there is also Seth Rogen, who worked in Good Fortune and in Dumb Money and in the TV series Invincible. For his role in The Studio he won an Emmy Awards, and the series obtained eleven other statuettes, including best comedy series, directing and screenplay.

Also present is Kumail Nanjiani, interpreter of episodes of Only Murders in the Building and The Big Sick. The direction and screenplay are by Dylan Meyer, at his directorial debut, after having written Girl Power - The Revolution Begins at School and XOXO. "I don't believe there exists a single movie with two marijuana-smoking best friends as protagonists - he said - I very much identified with The Dude and I realized that female characters of that type were missing. But I didn't want to make a movie for girls that imitated movies for boys. I wanted to make a movie that was authentic for the people who interpreted it and that didn't follow traditional comic formulas, because it had to be truly itself."

The Wrong Girls, the Production and Filming of the Movie

The production is by Nevermind Pictures - of Stewart and Meyer themselves - and Point Grey Pictures - of Rogen and Evan Goldberg - together with Savage Road Productions. Principal photography took place in Los Angeles in February 2025, with the punk band Mannequin Pussy performing live. The movie comes out in U.S. theaters on August 14, 2026.
