50th Anniversary of Jesus of Nazareth - interview with Robert Powell
At the Italian Global Series: Giulio Base, moderator Alessandra De Luca
At the Italian Global Series in Rimini, the Cinema Fulgor hosted a discussion with Robert Powell, the unforgettable star of Franco Zeffirelli’s *Jesus of Nazareth*, the miniseries that drew 700 million viewers. At Zeffirelli’s request, “Before we started filming, we rehearsed for ten days, even in full costume and makeup, but something wasn’t working. Finally, in agreement with Zeffirelli, we decided that I should do absolutely nothing—be a completely blank canvas—exactly the opposite of what an actor normally does. This would satisfy everyone’s imagination,” said the actor. Powell shares never-before-told anecdotes about the auditions, the big-name Hollywood actors who were turned down, and the secrets behind a film that forever changed cinematic iconography.
