One Life, the plot of the movie

One Life is the upcoming drama movie. In London in 1939, stockbroker Nicholas "Nicky" Winton at only 29 years old rescues 669 of the refugee children--and threatened by Hitler's death camps--by taking them out of Czechoslovakia,. He takes them to British foster families. His motto is "If something is not impossible, then there must be a way to do it." His conviction leads him to undertake an operation that others dismiss as unnecessary or too difficult. Today, there are an estimated 6,000 people in the world who owe their lives to Nicholas Winton: these are descendants of the group of refugee children rescued by him.

Anthony Hopkins plays Nicholas Winton as an adult: the actor won an Oscar for his performance in The Father, and also recently starred in the TV series Westworld  as Dr. Robert Ford. He recently admitted to The New Yorker that he found his own role in Thor as Odin unnecessary: "They put me in armor; the beard," recalled Hopkins, "'sit on the throne, shout a little bit. If you're sitting in front of a green screen, there's no point in acting." Also in the cast do One Life are Johnny Flynn, who worked on The Outfit; Helena Bonham Carter, who will play Winton's mother, Babi Winton, who was of German-Jewish descent but had settled in northwest London with her husband. It is directed by James Hawes, who has directed episodes of the TV series Slow Horses and Snowpiercer. The screenplay is by Lucinda Coxon (The Danish Girl) and Nick Drake (Romulus), based on the book If It's Not Impossible...The Life of Sir Nicholas Winton, written by his daughter Barbara Winton, who chronicles her father's actions. The title is paraphrased from the Jewish Talmud: "He who saves one life, saves the whole world."

One Life, filming and release date for the movie

The production is by See-Saw Films and BBC Films. Filming began in London in September 2022, and then moved to Prague. One Life is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 8, 2023.
