Scary Movie 6 is the comedy and horror movie coming out. The plot focuses on parodying recent horror movies: among these are Get Out (2017), Nope (2022), Longlegs (2024), Heretic (2024), Sinners (2025) - Oscar nominee - I Know What You Did Last Summer, Terrifier 3 (2024), Halloween (2018), Smile (2022), M3GAN (2022), The Substance (2024) and Weapons (2025), with references to Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise.

“What we are trying to do is bring back laughter,” said director Michael Tiddes to EW. “It’s about bringing comedy back to how it used to be. And I believe the only way to do that is to cancel cancel culture.”

In the released trailer, a character with M3GAN’s face is on the subway and approaches a woman: she removes the mask and shows the face of Scream, then stabs her. Cindy Campbell’s (Anna Faris) daughter shows up at her door: “You look like a mess,” she says, seeing her disheveled. “Should we hug?” invites Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall); “I would love to, but now I’m Republican, I should be racist,” Cindy replies; “Oh girl, I think all white people are racist anyway. Come here.”

“Mom, Santa gave me a severed arm,” says a girl receiving the gift from Santa of Terrifier; “don’t forget to thank him,” Cindy replies. Then other children receive gifts, and one of them finds testicles.

The scene showing Art the Clown blowing up a mall with children was initially removed but later reintegrated in a shortened cut. Also, since the Wayans brothers — who originated the franchise in 2000 — will work on the screenplay, the movie will very likely be rated R again. Indeed, the trio left the project after Scary Movie 2, with the next three movies in the franchise going to different screenwriters and directors. The franchise rating shifted from R to PG-13, resulting in a decline in critical reception and box office earnings.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the new Scary Movie and to work together again,” they said, as reported by Deadline. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope that happens again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs back to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Marlon Wayans will be Shorty Meeks, Shawn Wayans is Ray Wilkins. Anna Faris returns as Cindy Campbell: in her story — from the beginning of the series — she attends college and, with her friends, goes to the Hell House for Professor Oldman’s experiment, with a role based on Eleanor Vance from The Haunting, then Rachel Keller from The Ring, up to Karen Davis from The Grudge — working as a caregiver in a haunted house. Her first boyfriend, Bobby Prinze, pressured her for intimacy and was later revealed to be both gay and a killer who tried to kill her; Buddy was contentious and their relationship did not last, and her first marriage to an aggressive and disrespectful man turned violent, leading to divorce. Her most successful relationship was with her second husband George Logan, who died following a boxing accident.

Regina Hall plays Brenda Meeks, Cindy’s friend; also present are Damon Wayans Jr., Cheri Oteri as Gail Hailstorm, Chris Elliott as Hanson, and Dave Sheridan as Doofy Gilmore.

The direction is by Michael Tiddes, who already directed A Haunted House and A Haunted House 2. The screenplay is by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans & Keenen Ivory Wayans, brothers who created the first movie in 2000. In total, the five movies of the franchise have grossed 177 million dollars.

Filming began in October 2025 and concluded in November: it took place at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The production is by Miramax, Original Film, and Ugly Baby Productions. The movie releases in US cinemas on June 5, 2026.
