The Plot of The Five Star Weekend

The Five Star Weekend tells the story of Hollis Shaw, a successful food blogger and bestselling author, who faces a devastating loss. The sudden death of her husband in a car accident exposes the fragilities of her existence: a marriage in crisis, the complicated relationship with her daughter Caroline, the constant search for approval from her followers.

To overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis organizes a weekend at her Nantucket house with four friends from different phases of her life. Tatum McKenzie represents childhood, Dru-Ann Jones the college years, Brooke Kirtley adulthood. The fifth guest is Gigi Ling, a stranger met through the blog.

The weekend transforms into an occasion for confrontation where boundaries are crossed and secrets emerge. Tatum must face the possibility of a cancer diagnosis, the same illness that killed her mother. Dru-Ann, an established sports commentator, manages a professional scandal. Brooke carries with her the tensions of her marriage to Charlie. Gigi hides truths that directly involve Hollis.

The Cast of the Peacock Series

Jennifer Garner plays Hollis Shaw and also holds the role of executive producer. Regina Hall is Dru-Ann Jones, Chloë Sevigny plays Tatum McKenzie, while Gemma Chan is Gigi Ling and D'Arcy Carden is Brooke Kirtley. Timothy Olyphant appears as Jack, Hollis's teenage boyfriend. Harlow Jane plays Caroline Shaw, the protagonist's daughter.

In the recurring cast appear David Denman as Kyle McKenzie, Josh Hamilton in the role of Matthew, Rob Huebel as Charlie Kirtley, Judy Greer as Electra, West Duchovny as Aubrey, Tory Devon Smith as John Mark, Henry Eikenberry as Dylan Leclaire and Roberta Colindrez as Sunny.

The Production and Adaptation from the Novel

The miniseries is an adaptation of the 2023 novel by Elin Hilderbrand, developed by Bekah Brunstetter. Beth Schacter collaborates as executive producer and screenwriter. Sue Naegle and Ali Krug produce through Dinner Party Productions, which has an overall deal with Universal Content Productions.

Filming took place on a set in Los Angeles in 2025 and in Nantucket in September of the same year. Minkie Spiro directs the first episode and appears among the executive producers. The series comprises eight episodes, written by a team that includes Fernanda Coppel, Mackenzie Yeager, Vivian Barnes, Aja Gabel, Bixby Elliot and Isabella A. Rodriguez.

When The Five Star Weekend Comes Out

The Five Star Weekend will debut on Peacock on July 9, 2026 with all eight episodes available simultaneously. The platform announced the project in January 2025, after Jennifer Garner joined as star and executive producer.

Jennifer Garner recently played the lead role in The Last Thing He Told Me for Apple TV+, while Regina Hall worked on The Staircase, produced by the same Dinner Party Productions of Sue Naegle and Ali Krug. Chloë Sevigny has participated in various independent productions in recent years. Timothy Olyphant continues his collaboration with television projects after the success of previous series. D'Arcy Carden, known for her work in television comedies, brings her experience to this choral drama. Judy Greer, a constant presence in the American television and movie landscape, adds depth to the series' recurring cast.
