Over Your Dead Body, the movie’s plot

Over Your Dead Body is the comedy and thriller movie coming out. The plot focuses on a dysfunctional couple - played by Jason Segel and Samara Weaving - who decide to retreat to an isolated cabin to find themselves, and save what remains of their marriage.

But behind the forced smiles and promises of reconciliation, each of them has a secret plan: to kill the other. “Wake up” says the wife to the husband, who is tied to a chair. “What’s happening?” he asks; “I’m just having a cup of tea and I’m curious to know something more” she responds.

Jason Segel is an actor in the TV series Shrinking, where he performs alongside Harrison Ford, and will be in Sponsor. Samara Weaving will be in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and has worked on Borderline.

In the cast are Timothy Olyphant, who acted in the FX series Alien: Earth where he plays a platinum blonde android, and Stick; Juliette Lewis, already seen in Opus. The direction is by Jorma Taccone, who has already directed MacGruber, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. “I’m thrilled to have Independent Film Company as a partner for the release ofOver Your Dead Body” said Taccone.

The screenplay is inspired by I Onde Dager/The Trip, a Norwegian thriller from 2021 directed by Tommy Wirkola and starring Aksel Hennie and Noomi Rapace.

Over Your Dead Body, the filming and the movie’s release date

The production is by 87North Productions, XYZ Films and Resolute Films. Filming began in November 2024 in Tampere, Finland. The movie will be presented as a premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, and releases in United States cinemas on April 24, 2026.
