It's my understanding that the story is at least in part concerned with the struggles of a significant portion of the population in the US who have been overlooked in our economic system. The subject matter is particularly timely given the current election cycle conversation initiated by Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders about the problem of economic inequality in America.
