President Curtis Adult Swim: Cast, Plot and Release Date of the Rick and Morty Spinoff
President Curtis is the animated spinoff of Rick and Morty created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano for Adult Swim. The series debuts on July 26, 2026 at 11:30pm ET/PT, immediately following the Rick and Morty season finale. Episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max the next day.
The announcement was made during the world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026, in the presence of co-creators Dan Harmon and James Siciliano.
The Plot of President Curtis: Interdimensional Diplomacy and Paranormal Phenomena
The series follows President Andre Curtis and his eccentric staff as they tackle crises that Rick Sanchez would never deign to handle: from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.
The question that runs through the narrative is: can a president maintain control when reality itself becomes multidimensional?
The Cast of President Curtis: Keith David, Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash
Keith David reprises the role of President Andre Curtis, a character he voiced in Rick and Morty. Alongside him, Stephanie Beatriz plays Banks and Jim Rash voices Special Agent O'Doyle.
The character of Curtis was created by Wes Archer and Tom Kauffman as a stand-in for then-president Barack Obama for the Rick and Morty episode "Get Schwifty," though he did not receive a surname until the fifth season or a first name until the seventh. Inspired by Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, Dan Harmon stated that the character's subsequent appearances came from the idea of a cartoonishly inadequate president, depicted as a composite character of Obama and Trump, before evolving into an original character in subsequent seasons.
The Production of President Curtis: From Rick and Morty to the Expanded Universe
The series was announced after Keith David's surprise appearance at the Rick and Morty panel at San Diego Comic Con on July 25, 2025. In a joint statement, co-creators Dan Harmon and James Siciliano stated: "President Curtis has always been one of our favorite characters to write: he's the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office. Now we finally get to follow sci-fi missions from Curtis' point of view. And with Keith David at the helm, it's going to be a wild ride."
Harmon and Siciliano are also executive producers on President Curtis alongside Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell and Steve Levy.
Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, stated: "There's no more animation-loving audience than Annecy's, which makes it the perfect place to present this new series. We can't wait for everyone to see how great President Curtis is on his own when the series debuts next month."
Recent Projects of the President Curtis Cast
Keith David has lent his voice to numerous animation and live-action projects in recent years, consolidating his presence in the entertainment landscape. Stephanie Beatriz, known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, recently worked in Twisted Metal and voiced Mirabel in Disney's Encanto. Jim Rash, winner of an Oscar for the screenplay of The Descendants, is known for his role as Dean Pelton in Community and has continued to work both as an actor and as a screenwriter in various television and movie projects.
